Does the Plegium app need to be open and my device connected for emergency alerts to work?

Yes. Your spray or alarm button must stay connected to your phone via Bluetooth, and the Plegium app must be running for emergency alerts to work. The app can run in the background and your phone can be locked. If you fully close the app or your device loses its Bluetooth connection, emergency alerts will not be sent when you activate it.

On iOS, allow the Plegium app to run in the background: Settings → Apps → Plegium → Background App Refresh → On.

On Android, go to Settings → Apps → Plegium → Battery and select Unrestricted or No restrictions.

Your device reconnects when you reopen the app and it is within Bluetooth range. You can check its connection status in the Plegium app.

A disconnected defense spray can still spray and activate its siren and LED light. Only its emergency alert features depend on the app connection.
